Evaluation

The evaluation of weakness and fatigue begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings may include:

Fever
High blood pressure
Low blood pressure
Pale skin
Rapid breathing rate
Rapid pulse
Slow pulse
Swelling
Weight gain
Weight loss

Tests are often required to determine the underlying cause of severe or persistent weakness and fatigue.

Tests may include:

Chest x-ray
Complete blood count
Kidney function tests
Liver function tests
Monospot
Serum electrolytes
Stool guaiac test
Urinalysis
