What is von Hippel-Lindau disease?
A person with von Hippel-Lindau disease has abnormal cells throughout the body that multiply, forming tumors. The cells can become cancerous and spread to other parts of the body. Von Hippel-Lindau tumors are most common in the abdomen, brain and eyes. Von Hippel-Lindau is an inherited disease that increases a person's risk for kidney cancer. About 3 out of every 100,000 people in the US are born with von Hippel-Lindau disease. Images
