Notify your doctor if you have viral exanthem and any of the following:

Rash becomes painful
Worsening skin tenderness
Joint pains
Joint swelling
Severe headache
Neck pain
Repeated vomiting
Rash that lasts more than 1 week
Rash that looks like broken blood vessels under the skin
Skin ulcers
Fever over 101 degrees F (38.3 C)

Yellow or brown scabs cover the rash

Large blisters form on the skin
Red streaks in the skin:

Lymphangitis of the arm
Lymphangitis of the back of the leg
Lymphangitis of the hand from a finger wound

Worsening skin redness and pain:

Cellulitis of the face
Cellulitis of the ear
Cellulitis of the arm
Cellulitis of the hand
Cellulitis of the leg
Cellulitis of the foot
Cellulitis of the abdomen
Cellulitis of the breast
