Uterine Fibroids Treatment: Myomectomy
During myomectomy, fibroids are removed from the uterus, without removing the entire uterus.

Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroids
  • Abdominal myomectomy:
    • A surgical incision is made in the abdomen, in order to remove large fibroids.
  • Laparoscopic myomectomy: Images
    • A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
    • Fibroids are removed through tiny incisions in the abdomen.
  • Hysteroscopic myomectomy:
    • A flexible scope is passed through the vagina and into the uterus, in order to visualize the inside of the uterus Images
    • Fibroids are removed from the inside of the uterus
  • Myolysis:
    • A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
    • Electrical current is used to destroy the fibroids
  • Cryomyolysis:
    • A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
    • Liquid nitrogen is used is used to freeze and destroy the fibroids
  • Endometrial ablation:
    • A flexible scope is passed through the vagina and into the uterus, in order to visualize the inside of the uterus
    • Heat is used to destroy the inside lining of the uterus
    • This may be used to treat uterine bleeding, but will not remove the fibroids
