During myomectomy, fibroids are removed from the uterus, without removing the entire uterus.
Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroids - Abdominal myomectomy:
- A surgical incision is made in the abdomen, in order to remove large fibroids.
- Laparoscopic myomectomy:
- A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
- Fibroids are removed through tiny incisions in the abdomen.
- Hysteroscopic myomectomy:
- A flexible scope is passed through the vagina and into the uterus, in order to visualize the inside of the uterus

- Fibroids are removed from the inside of the uterus
- Myolysis:
- A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
- Electrical current is used to destroy the fibroids
- Cryomyolysis:
- A flexible scope is used to visualize the inside of the abdomen
- Liquid nitrogen is used is used to freeze and destroy the fibroids
- Endometrial ablation:
- A flexible scope is passed through the vagina and into the uterus, in order to visualize the inside of the uterus
- Heat is used to destroy the inside lining of the uterus
- This may be used to treat uterine bleeding, but will not remove the fibroids
