The evaluation of ultraviolet keratitis begins with a history and eye exam.

Physical findings in someone with ultraviolet keratitis may include:

• Vision impairment
• Cloudiness of the cornea
• Eye redness
• Eye tearing
• Eye swelling:
• Swelling of the conjunctiva
• Swelling of the eyelid

Usually, tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of ultraviolet keratitis.

Tests that may be used to evaluate ultraviolet keratitis include:

• Viral culture of the tears
• Staining of the cornea
