Prevention of typhus includes:

  • Avoid contact with fleas, lice and chiggers.
  • Good personal hygiene
  • Wash personal items regularly:
    • Bedding
    • Clothes
    • Linens
  • Do not share personal care items:
    • Brushes
    • Combs
    • Towels
  • Avoid crowded living conditions:
    • Shelters
    • Nursing homes
    • Barracks
  • Treat pets for fleas
