Type 2 Diabetes Treatment: Incretin Mimetics
Incretin mimetics have the same actions as incretin, a naturally-occurring hormone. Incretin helps regulate blood glucose levels. Incretin mimetics regulate blood glucose levels after meals.

An example of an incretin mimetic includes:
  • Exenatide (Byetta)
    • Must be administered by injection an hour before breakfast and dinner.
    • Commonly used in combination with metformin or a sulfonylurea
