What is tularemia?
A person with tularemia has a rare bacterial infection, caused by Francisella tularensis. The bacteria are transmitted to humans by insects and animals. Only about one out of a million people in the US each year develop tularemia.

What are the symptoms of tularemia?
Initial symptoms of tularemia include fever, chills, and weakness or fatigue. Additional symptoms include skin ulcers, sore throat, throat swelling, eye redness, eye discharge, and lymph node swelling.
