What is trigger finger?
A person with a trigger finger has thickening of a tendon that lies on the palm side of the hand. The thickened area prevents the tendon from sliding smoothly beneath the ligament that holds it in place. As a result, the person has difficulty flexing and extending the finger.

What are the symptoms of trigger finger?
Symptoms of trigger finger include finger pain during flexion or extension. The finger may also make a clicking, popping or snapping sound during movement. In some cases, the finger may become locked in one position.

How does the doctor treat trigger finger?
Treatment for a trigger finger may include a finger splint, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid injections, or surgery.
