Trichinosis Underlying Cause

Trichinosis is caused by the parasite, Trichinella spiralis.

Sources of trichinosis include:

Eating undercooked, contaminated pork
Eating undercooked, contaminated wild game

The meat contains cysts:

Cysts hatch within the human intestinal tract after exposure to stomach acid.
Cysts produce adult roundworms that produce larvae.
Larvae migrate through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.
Larvae form cysts in muscle and other tissues.
Adult worms eventually die and pass in the stool.
