The physical examination in someone with transient global amnesia is usually normal.
Testing is usually required to exclude conditions that can cause symptoms similar to transient global amnesia.
Tests that may be used to evaluate transient global amnesia include:
- Blood glucose

- Coagulation profile

- Complete blood count

- Therapeutic drug levels in the bloodstream

- Kidney profile

- Liver function tests

- CT scanning of the brain

- MRI scan of the brain


- Electroencephalogram:
- Can detect a seizure
