What is toe pain?
A person with toe pain has discomfort in the toe. Toe pain may be caused by an injury, infection, or inflammation.
What are the symptoms of toe pain?
Symptoms that occur with toe pain include toe stiffness, swelling, tenderness, and numbness. Additional symptoms may include skin redness or difficulty walking.
How does the doctor treat toe pain?
The treatment of toe pain depends on the underlying cause. Treatment for toe pain may include rest, cold compresses, elevation, wound care, a splint or protective shoe, crutches, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Additional treatment may include physical therapy, surgery, or antibiotics for a skin infection.
