Home care for tinea versicolor includes:
  • Keep the skin clean and dry:
    • Avoid activities that make you sweat.
  • Bath twice a day:
    • Dry the skin thoroughly after bathing.
  • Avoid scratching the rash:
    • This may make the infection worse.
  • Clean clothes in hot soapy water.
  • Shampoo for tinea versicolor:
    • Selenium shampoo (Selsun, Excel)
    • Apply to the skin 40 minutes before showering.
    • Apply daily for one week.
  • Apply a nonprescription antifungal cream:
  • Take oral antihistamines for itching:
