Tinea Versicolor Evaluation
The evaluation of tinea versicolor begins with a history and physical exam. Images

Physical findings in someone with tinea versicolor include:
  • Rash:
    • Patches of skin that may be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin Images
  • Mild flaking of the skin
The diagnosis of tinea versicolor can usually be made without testing.

Tests that may be used to evaluate tinea versicolor include:
  • Examination of the skin under an ultraviolet light
  • Skin scraping:
    • For examination under the microscope
  • Skin biopsy
