What is tinea pedis?
A person with tinea pedis has inflammation of the skin on the foot, caused by a fungal infection. This infection usually starts with a rash over the skin between the toes. About 70 percent of people suffer from tinea pedis at some time during their lives. Tinea pedis is more common in warmer climates and in young, athletic males. Tinea pedis can be very difficult to treat.

What are the symptoms of tinea pedis?
The main symptom of tinea pedis includes an itchy, red, scaly rash on the toes or foot. Additional symptoms include severe itching, peeling skin, blisters, and splitting of the skin between the toes.

How does the doctor treat tinea pedis?
Treatment for tinea pedis may include an antifungal cream or lotion, or oral antifungal medication. Additional treatment may include antihistamine medication for itching. Feet should be kept clean and dry.
