Tinea Capitis Evaluation
The evaluation of tinea capitis begins with a history and physical exam. Images

Physical findings in someone with tinea capitis include:
  • Rash on the scalp Images
    • Patchy
    • Round
    • Scaly
  • Mild scalp tenderness
  • Broken hair shafts on the skin surface Images
  • Patchy hair loss
Tests may be necessary to make the diagnosis of tinea capitis.

Tests that may be used to evaluate tinea capitis include:
  • Examination of the skin under an ultraviolet light
  • Skin scraping:
    • For examination under the microscope
  • Skin biopsy
