Types of tibia fracture include:
  • Tibial stress fracture:
    • Hairline fracture in the outer layer of the tibia bone
    • Often do not show up on plain x-ray (need a bone scan)
  • Tibial plateau fracture: Images
    • Common in children
    • This fracture occurs in the upper tibia at the knee
  • Nondisplaced fracture of the tibia:
    • Fractured pieces line up correctly
  • Comminuted fracture of the tibia:
    • Fractures that result in more than two pieces of broken bone
