Thrush Evaluation
The evaluation of thrush begins with a history and physical exam. Images

Physical findings in someone with thrush may include:
  • Throat redness
  • White coating on the surface the mouth and throat:
    • On the tongue Images
    • On the back of the throat Images
    • Coating does not come off with application of a swab
Usually, tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of thrush.

Tests that may be used to evaluate thrush include:
  • Culture of the throat
  • Strep screen of the throat Images
  • Examination of the white coating under a microscope
  • Monospot Images
