What is throat cancer?
A person with throat cancer has abnormal cells in the throat that are multiplying out of control. These cells can form tumors and spread to other parts of the body. The cause of throat cancer is unknown, but genetics may play a role in determining risk. About 10,000 people develop throat cancer each year in the US.

The most common symptom of throat cancer is a hoarse voice. Additional symptoms of throat cancer include bad breath, sore throat, swollen lymph glands in the neck, coughing, coughing up blood, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, neck pain, neck swelling and weight loss.

Treatment for throat cancer may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.
