What is tenosynovitis?
A person with tenosynovitis has inflammation of the soft tissues surrounding a tendon. The tissues surrounding the tendon are referred to as the tendon sheath. In some cases, tenosynovitis may be due to a bacterial infection of the tendon sheath. Images

What are the symptoms of tenosynovitis?
Symptoms of tenosynovitis include pain, tenderness, and swelling around a tendon. The pain worsens with movement. The skin over the tendon may also become red and warm.

How does the doctor treat tenosynovitis?
Treatment for tenosynovitis may include rest, elevation, cold compresses, a splint or cast, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Additional treatment may include an injection of corticosteroid medication around the tendon.
