Home care for tendinitis includes: - Apply a cold compress:
- Wrap ice in a moist hand towel. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
- Apply for 20-30 minutes, every 1-2 hours, for the first few days.
- Apply warm wet compresses after 3 days for stiffness.
- Elevate the area if swelling is present.
- Rest the tendon until the pain is gone.
- Slowly increase activity as long as there is no pain.
- Start stretching exercises and range of motion exercises once the pain has resolved.
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain:
- Acetaminophen for pain
- Take prescribed medication as directed.
- Wear a splint as directed by your doctor.
