What is teething?
An infant is teething when the baby teeth are breaking through the gums. The gums become inflamed and irritated. Teething occurs between the ages of 6 months and 2 years.

Symptoms of teething include the desire to chew on objects, excessive drooling, and mild gum redness, swelling or tenderness. Although contrary to popular belief, studies show that a child who is teething is no more likely to have a fever than a child who is not teething.

How does the doctor treat teething?
Treatment for teething may include a soft diet, teething gel, and acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain.
