Swollen Testicle Anatomy

To better understand testicular lump or swelling, it helps to understand the anatomy of the scrotum and testicles.

The scrotum is a sac of skin that contains the two testicles and several other reproductive structures. Each testicle has an epididymis and vas deferens to collect and transfer sperm. Blood vessels, fatty tissues and coverings (tunica) of the testicles are also contained in the scrotum.

Each testicle receives its blood supply through a structure called the spermatic cord. Any blockage of the spermatic cord will deprive the testicle of its critical blood supply.

Male genital anatomy:

  • Testicle
  • Inguinal canal and scrotum
  • Prostate, testes, and penis
  • Prostate and bladder
  • Locations where lymph node swelling can be felt
