Subacute Lymphocytic Thyroiditis Underlying Cause
The cause for lymphocytic thyroiditis is unknown. For some reason, the immune system, which normally fights infection, mistakenly attacks thyroid cells. Lymphocytes, which are part of the immune system, collect in the thyroid gland.
