What is stuttering?
A child with stuttering has difficulty initiating speech. A word, syllable, or phrase is repeated, prolonged, or stopped during speech. With speech therapy, childhood stuttering usually resolves over time. About 1 out 100 people stutter. The cause of stuttering is unknown.

What are the symptoms of stuttering?
The most common symptom of stuttering is difficulty initiating words. Additional symptoms of stuttering include avoiding particular words, moments of anxiousness, repeating phrases multiple times, or an increase in volume while stuttering.

How does the doctor treat stuttering?
Treatment for stuttering may include speech therapy.
