Prevention of a stroke includes:
- Follow a stroke diet:
- Avoid alcohol, or drink alcohol in moderation:
- For men: no more than 2 alcoholic beverages per day
- For women: no more than 1 alcoholic beverage per day
- Stop smoking
- Avoid exposure to secondary smoke
- Ask your doctor if you should take a blood thinner medication, such as:
- Effective control of underlying illnesses:
- Get regular exercise
- Lose weight if you are overweight
