Splinter Warning Signs
Notify your doctor if you have a possible skin foreign body and any of the following:
- Persistent bleeding from the wound
- Pus draining from the wound
- Skin numbness near the wound
- Fever over 101 degrees F (38.3 C)

- Worsening pain around the wound
- Worsening swelling around the wound
- You have not had a tetanus booster within 5 years
- Increasing pain, redness, and swelling of the skin:
- Red streaks that spread from a wound:
- Lymphangitis of the arm

- Lymphangitis of the back of the leg

- Lymphangitis of the hand from a finger wound
