Spasms Esophageal Evaluation
An evaluation of an esophageal spasm begins with a medical history and physical examination.
The physical examination is usually normal in someone with esophageal spasm.
Tests are required to make the diagnosis of esophageal spasm.
Tests that may be used to evaluate esophageal spasm include:
- Barium swallow
- Chest x-ray
- Esophageal manometry:
- Measuring the pressure inside the esophagus
- Upper GI endoscopy
