The evaluation of slipped capital femoral epiphysis begins with a history and physical exam. Images

Physical findings in someone with a slipped capital femoral epiphysis may include:
  • Limping:
  • Decreased range of motion of the hip
  • Inability to move the hip because of pain
  • Leg may be shortened
  • Tenderness over the hip joint
Tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
