Skin Dryness Home Care
Home care for dry skin includes:
- Avoid scratching: this can cause infection.
- Wash your skin gently with mild soap twice a day.
- Take oatmeal baths.
- Pat your skin dry after bathing: do not rub the skin.
- Use hypoallergenic cosmetics.
- Use hypoallergenic soap.
- Avoid exposure to the sun.
- Wear clothing that blocks the sun's rays.
- Apply sunscreen that blocks UV radiation.
- Wear a hat.
- Apply a moisturizer for dry skin:
- Wear all cotton clothing.
- Apply petroleum jelly to your hands and feet at night.
- Wear thin gloves and socks at night.
- Take prescribed medications as directed:
Skin Dryness Warning Signs
Notify your doctor if you have dry skin and any of the following:
- Worsening rash
- Worsening skin swelling
- Worsening skin pain
- Yellow or brown scabs on the skin
- Red streaks form on the skin:
- Lymphangitis of the arm
- Lymphangitis of the back of the leg
- Lymphangitis of the hand from a finger wound
- Worsening skin redness and pain:
