Skin Cancer Symptoms

Characteristics of a normal mole include:

Color is tan, brown, or black
Sharp borders
Round or oval shape
Less than 6 mm (1/4 inch) in diameter
Symmetric: one side has the same shape as the other

Symptoms of skin cancer include:

Skin lumps that bleed or crack
Skin lumps that have an irregular border
Skin lumps that have inconsistent coloration
Skin lumps that change size or shape
Mole that changes in appearance
Moles over 6 mm in diameter
New skin growth that rises above the level of the skin surface
New skin lump or skin bump on the skin
One side of a skin lesion does not look like the other
Skin lesion that is scaly, crusty, or oozing
Skin lesions that do not heal
Skin lesion or growth that has blood vessels in it
