What is scabies?
A person with scabies has inflammation of the skin caused by a tiny insect, called a mite. Scabies mites burrow into the skin, where it causes irritation and inflammation. Scabies is common and very contagious. Worldwide, there are about 300 million cases of scabies each year.

What are the symptoms of scabies?
Symptoms of scabies include severe itching, and a rash. In adults, the rash may be located between the fingers, on the wrists, on the elbows, or in the groin. In infants, the rash may be located on the face and scalp. The rash may include scratches, blisters or scaly skin.

How does the doctor treat scabies?
Treatment for scabies includes washing clothes and bedding in hot water every day, and insecticide lotions or oral insecticide medications.
