A person with sacrum fracture has broken the sacrum, a triangular bone at the base of the spine. The sacrum is the part of the backbone that connects to the pelvis.

The most common type of sacral fracture is a sacral stress fracture. This injury is seen most commonly in young, active individuals.

Sacral fractures may also occur in those with severe pelvic fractures. Severe fractures are usually caused by motor vehicle accident or falls.
