The evaluation of rotator cuff tendinitis begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in someone with rotator cuff tendinitis include:

• Inability to move the shoulder
• Pain during movement of the shoulder
• Shoulder swelling
• Tenderness of the shoulder

Tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of rotator cuff tendinitis.

Tests that may be used to evaluate rotator cuff tendinitis include:

• Ultrasound of the shoulder
• Shoulder x-rays
• MRI scan of the shoulder
• Arthrogram of the shoulder
• Arthroscopy of the shoulder
