What is rotator cuff tendinitis?
A person with rotator cuff tendinitis has inflammation of the tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. The rotator cuff consists of four muscles and tendons, which surround the top and back of the shoulder. These tendons help hold the humerus and scapula together, and help move the shoulder. What are the symptoms of rotator cuff tendinitis?
The most common symptom of rotator cuff tendinitis is shoulder pain that worsens with movement of the shoulder. Additional symptoms of rotator cuff tendinitis may include tenderness, swelling, and warmth of the skin over the shoulder.

How does the doctor treat rotator cuff tendinitis?
Initial treatment for rotator cuff tendinitis may include rest, a sling, cold compresses, physical therapy, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Additional treatment for severe rotator cuff tendinitis may include corticosteroid medication injections or surgery.
