What is roseola?
An infant or young child with roseola has a viral infection that causes a fever, followed by a rash. Roseola is a common cause of rash in children under two years of age.

What are the symptoms of roseola?
The initial symptoms of roseola include a fever that lasts about 2 days, followed by a rash. The non-itchy rash is pink or red, starts on the trunk, and spreads to the neck and limbs. The rash usually fades in 2 days. Additional symptoms of roseola may include diarrhea, cough, and swollen lymph glands in the neck.

How does the doctor treat roseola?
There is no cure for roseola. Children with roseola recover completely without treatment. Treatment for roseola may include rest, plenty of liquids, and acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain and fever.
