A person with retinoblastoma has abnormal cells in the retina that multiply out of control. These cancer cells can form tumors and spread to other parts of the body. The cause for retinoblastoma is unknown, although an abnormal gene is present in those who have the disease. Retinoblastoma is most common in children under the age of five.
