Evaluation of radial tunnel syndrome begins with a history and physical examination of the neck and arm.

Physical findings in someone with radial tunnel syndrome may include:

• Arm tenderness:
• Over the muscles of the forearm near the elbow
• Arm weakness (unilateral):
• Located in the forearm
• Difficulty straightening the wrist or fingers
• Hand numbness (unilateral):
• Over the back of the hand, near the thumb

Testing may be necessary to make the diagnosis of radial tunnel syndrome.

Tests that may be used to evaluate radial tunnel syndrome include:

• EMG and nerve conduction study
• Detects damage to the radial nerve
• MRI scan
