Pulmonary Embolism Prevention
Prevention of pulmonary embolism includes:
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Avoid exposure to secondary smoke.
  • Avoid tight clothing.
  • Avoid long periods of constant sitting.
    • Do not sit on the edge of your seat.
    • Elevate you legs when you are sitting.
    • Do not cross your legs.
  • Follow an exercise plan developed with your doctor.
  • During air travel:
    • Walk around the cabin every thirty minutes during long flights.
  • Stop to walk every hour if you are traveling long distances by car.
