A person with pneumoconiosis has damage to the lungs, caused by years of exposure to some type of dust, such as coal, silica or asbestos. Images

What are the symptoms of a pneumoconiosis?
Initial symptoms of pneumoconiosis include a cough, wheezing, and difficulty breathing during exertion. Symptoms of severe pneumoconiosis include shortness of breath at rest, leg swelling, and chest pain.

How does the doctor treat a pneumoconiosis?
There is no cure for pneumoconiosis. Treatment for pneumoconiosis may include antibiotics, bronchodilator medications, inhaled corticosteroids, and home oxygen therapy.
