What is phimosis?
A male with phimosis is unable to pull the foreskin over the shaft of the penis, in order to expose the head of the penis. Phimosis only occurs in uncircumcised men. Phimosis is naturally present at birth, and usually resolves during childhood. The most common cause of phimosis in adult males is balanitis. Only about 1 percent of males over the age of 16 develop phimosis.

What are the symptoms of phimosis?
Symptoms of phimosis include the inability to pull the foreskin back over the shaft of the penis, and difficulty urinating. Additional symptoms of phimosis include weak urine flow, pain during urination, and penile pain during an erection.

How does the doctor treat phimosis?
Treatment for phimosis may include topical corticosteroid medications and circumcision.
