Pernicious Anemia Underlying Cause
Pernicious anemia is caused by decreased levels of intrinsic factor, which is an enzyme that helps the body absorb vitamin B-12. The body requires vitamin B-12 in order to make red blood cells: without it, low levels of red blood cells result in anemia.
