Paronychia Evaluation
The evaluation of a paronychia begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in someone with a paronychia include:
  • Swelling of the skin next to the nail
  • Redness of the skin next to the nail Images
  • Tenderness to the skin next to the nail
  • Pus draining from the skin next to the nail
  • Ingrown fingernail
Tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of a paronychia.
