The initial symptoms of Parkinson's disease include:
- Tremor:
- Worse while at rest
- Improves during movement
- May worsen during times of stress
- Usually begins in a hand, but may begin in the foot or the jaw
- Usually starts in one location, then progresses to other locations
- Pill-rolling tremor:
- Rhythmic back-and-forth motion of the thumb and forefinger
- Slow movement
- Muscle stiffness:
- Limbs are resistant to stretching
- Cogwheel rigidity:
- Muscles jerk repeatedly when they are stretched
