Calcium lowers the risk of bone mineral loss and fracture.

Calcium supplements for menopause and osteoporosis:
Appropriate doses of calcium for women include:
  • Women between 25 to 50 years:
    • Require 1,000 to 1,500 mg of calcium each day.
  • Women on estrogen replacement therapy for menopause:
    • Require 1,000 to 1,500 mg of calcium each day.
  • Women older than 50:
    • Require 1,500 mg of calcium per day.
