Physical findings are most common in the joints that support the weight of the body, such as the hips, knees, ankles, and spine.

Physical findings in someone with osteoarthritis include:

• Joint stiffness
• Joint tenderness
• Decreased range of motion in the joints
• Mild joint swelling
• Deformed finger joints
• Limping

Tests that may be used to evaluate osteoarthritis include:

• Hand x-rays
• Hip x-rays
• Knee x-rays
• Spine x-rays
• CT scan of the spine
• MRI scan of the joints or spine
• Bone scanning
