Common names:

  • Ocular Migraine
  • Ophthalmoplegic Migraine
  • Retinal Migraine
A person with an ocular migraine has recurrent episodes of visual distortion. Images

The visual distortion usually only occurs in one eye and images may look wavy or grayed-out. Some may complain of seeing shimmering or colored lights. Less commonly, sight may be temporarily lost in one eye. Unlike migraine headaches, ocular migraines are usually not accompanied by a headache. Ocular migraines are not a serious condition and most require no treatment.

The symptoms of ocular migraine are important to report to your doctor because they can be similar to other more serious neurological conditions.
