What is obesity?
A person with obesity has an abnormal amount of fatty tissue in the body. In order to be obese, the body weight must be 30 percent higher than normal, or the body mass index must be over 30. Images

What are the symptoms of obesity?
Obesity generally causes no symptoms. Extreme obesity may result in weakness, fatigue, increasing shortness of breath with exertion, and leg swelling.

How does the doctor treat obesity?
Treatment for obesity usually requires a weight loss program that may combine special diet, regular exercise, behavioral therapy, and medications to diminish hunger. Some may benefit from bariatric surgery in the event other measures fail.
