Home care for obesity in children includes:
  • Avoid or limit TV and video games, as well as other sedentary activities.
  • Get your child involved with sports and other group physical activities.
  • Do not use dietary supplements without your doctor's OK. They may increase hunger and cause side effects.
  • Drink at least six, 8-ounce glasses of water a day, especially before meals.
  • Consult a dietician.
  • Follow a healthy diet with just enough calories.
  • Take a class in preparing low-calorie meals and low-calorie cookbooks.
  • Keep a daily record of all foods and drinks. Write everything down and calculate the calories.
