A newborn with neonatal jaundice has yellow skin and eyes from abnormally high levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream. Bilirubin is produced by the liver during the normal breakdown of red blood cells.

Symptoms of neonatal jaundice include:

• Yellow skin
• Yellow eyes
• Brown urine
• Sleepiness
• Poor feeding in infants
